The damage check at pick-up and return, and the report where it is recorded.
The inspection is the joint check of the vehicle's condition at pick-up and return. Existing damage is recorded on a report you sign, and that document decides whether a mark is new or was already there.
It is by some distance where most car hire disputes start.
Photograph the whole car before you drive off: all four sides, the roof, the underside if you can, the wheels and the windscreen. In good light, without rushing. Check that every visible mark is on the report and, if one is missing, have it added before signing.
Check the fuel level and the odometer too, and that both match what is written down.
Take the photos again. If you leave the car out of hours in a key box, you remain responsible until it is inspected, usually the next morning: dated photos are then your only evidence of how you left it.
We hand over and collect in person, so the check happens with you present both times — no key boxes and no inspections after the fact. And since the insurance has no excess, a scratch does not turn into a charge.
Zero-excess insurance, no deposit, unlimited kilometres and free cancellation up to 72h before.
