European accident statement

The European form drivers fill in together after an accident to record what happened.

The European accident statement is a form used across Europe that the drivers involved fill in together. It records vehicle and insurance details, circumstances and a sketch of the scene. Every hire car carries one in the glovebox.

What to do after an accident

Complete the form with the other driver and have both parties sign it. Photograph the damage to both vehicles, the final positions and the other registration. Call the hire company: the number is on your contract and in the car's documents. If anyone is injured, if you disagree about what happened, or if the other driver refuses to sign, call the police too.

Signing does not mean admitting fault: it records the facts. What you should not do is sign a version of events you disagree with.
