In Spain, children under 135 cm tall must use an approved child restraint appropriate to their height and weight. The legal reference is height, not age.

Where the child must sit

Children under 135 cm must travel in the rear seats. They may only sit in front in specific cases, such as a vehicle with no rear seats or all rear seats already occupied by other children. If a rear-facing seat is used in front, the passenger airbag must be deactivated.

The cost, which surprises people

Many companies charge for the seat per day with no cap, between €5 and €12. Over two weeks that can approach the price of buying a new one. Check whether there is a maximum per rental.

And above all: they run out in high season. Reserving one is not optional if you are travelling with children.
