The DGT environmental sticker classifies vehicles by emissions and is displayed on the windscreen. The categories, from cleanest to most polluting, are 0 emissions, ECO, C and B. Older vehicles have no sticker at all.
It governs access to Low Emission Zones (ZBE), which are mandatory in Spanish municipalities over 50,000 inhabitants. Each council sets its own restrictions, so conditions vary from city to city.
In practice, if your plans stay on the Costa Blanca it will not affect you. It matters if you are driving into central Valencia, Madrid or Barcelona, where restrictions are strict and cameras issue fines automatically.
Check your car's sticker — it is on the windscreen — and that city's ZBE rules for the day. Entering without permission is penalised without anyone stopping you, and the fine reaches you later with the company's admin fee on top.
