Motorcycle licence (A1, A2, A)

In Spain motorcycle licences are graded by power and engine size:

• A1 — up to 125cc and 11 kW. From age 16.
• A2 — up to 35 kW. From age 18.
• A — unrestricted. Requires two years on A2.

Car licences and 125cc: the part people get wrong

A category B licence allows you to ride class A1 motorcycles (up to 125cc) within Spain, but only once it has been held for at least three years. Simply holding a car licence is not enough: you need three years on it.

Plenty of websites get this wrong, ours included until recently. It matters because riding without the right entitlement leaves your insurance cover in question if anything happens.

Note the scope too: that B-licence entitlement applies in Spain, not automatically in other EU countries.

How we do it at Neptuno

For our 125cc scooters we ask for an A1 licence, or a category B licence held for three years. For the 350cc motorbikes, A2. Approved helmets included for rider and passenger.
