Upgrade

Getting a higher category vehicle than you booked, normally at no cost.

An upgrade means receiving a higher category vehicle than you booked. It usually happens when your group has run out, and in that case it should not cost extra: you booked a category and the company owes you at least that.

When an upgrade is not good news

It is not always welcome. A bigger car uses more fuel, is harder to park in old town streets and may not fit comfortably on the narrow roads down to the coves. If you booked an economy car to get around Altea or Jávea, a large SUV can complicate the trip more than improve it.

You can decline it and ask for your category to be honoured, even if that means waiting.

Careful with paid upgrades

Being offered a higher category for a fee at the desk is a different thing entirely. That is a sale, not compensation, and it deserves a calm decision rather than one made tired after travelling.

How we do it at Neptuno

Managing our own fleet means we know in advance what is available, so the allocation is not a last-minute surprise. If you need something specific — automatic, seven seats, a big boot — tell us when booking and we confirm it.
